InsideClean

This course is based on a video recording of Penny Tompkins and James Lawley facilitating a complete Symbolic Modelling session using Clean Language. It demonstrates how their approach works and how they adapted it to this particular client – in a detail never shown before.

The client wanted to "be more in control" of feelings that had distressed and prevented her from speaking up since she was a child. She said it's like "ivy wraps itself around me completely. I'm completely constricted". The client didn't think she could ever be "free" of these feelings. The best she hoped for was that they would not "bother me and bring me down as much".

In 45 minutes the client creates a new metaphor landscape, and three months later reports on how her interactions with her family have significantly improved.

Our aim

When we (Penny & James) first saw David Grove facilitating in the early 1990s, we knew we wanted to be able to replicate his way of working. One of the primary ways we learned was by watching him facilitate whole sessions. From this we grasped how the various phases of a clean session fit together as a whole.

This course provides:

• An opportunity to observe how we work.

• Insight into how we modelled and calibrated the client’s responses to being asked Clean Language questions.

• How a client’s inner world (metaphor landscape) develops and evolves.

This session features:

• Starting a session from two drawings.

• Working with a long-standing problematic pattern.

• The flow of the session through six phases.

• How we work with the client's 'choice point'.

• Our use of the Problem-Remedy-Outcome model.

• Our use of 'contextually clean' questions in addition to the basic 8 Clean Language questions.
